Release is the national centre of expertise on drugs and drugs law. The organisation, founded in 1967, is an independent and registered charity. Release provides legal advice and support on a variety of topics at several drug and alcohol treatment centres across the country.
Through their services, Release provides free non-judgmental, specialist advice and information to the public and professionals on issues related to drug use and to drug laws. Release also offers:
A national helpline to answer any legal or drug-related questions – open from 11am—1pm & 2pm—4pm Monday to Friday, and specific to law in England and Wales.
A Harm Reduction Hub – based out of the Release offices in East London, this community space offers support, advice and resources for the community, including people who use drugs and/or other marginalised groups like homeless people and sex workers.
The organisation campaigns directly on issues that impact on our clients - it is their experiences that drive the policy work that Release does. Release advocates for evidence-based drug policies that are founded on principles of public health rather than a criminal justice approach.
