About this service

Slide Away is a registered charity that has been supporting bereaved children and young people in Kent since 2004.

Slide Away helps bereaved children feel confident about their future by:

  • Providing a safe place for bereaved children to meet with others who have been bereaved where our professional team can help them to understand and express their feelings, hold onto their memories and manage on difficult days. We do this through a range of carefully crafted therapeutic activities that use literature, art, craft and the outdoors to provide them with a positive experience and enable them to have fun.

  • Helping to open up communication in families by involving parents and carers. We help them to understand their children's grief, which will vary based on their developmental age, by offering parent and carer groups or, depending on the circumstances of the family’s loss, by inviting parents or carers to attend with their children.

  • Working in partnership with schools, recognising the important role they have in supporting bereaved pupils. We take our referrals from schools, and we provide high-quality training, support and advice to our nominated school contacts.
