About this service

We are a tertiary neuropsychiatry outpatient service offering assessment and treatment to adults in the West Kent and Medway area. KMPT does not have specialist neuropsychiatric inpatient beds. We offer multidisciplinary (neuropsychiatry, clinical psychology, neuropsychology, nursing) assessment and treatment for adults aged 18+. Assessment and treatment is based on an individual’s needs and treatment plan, but may include drug therapy, short-term psychological therapy interventions and assessment of cognitive abilities. As a tertiary service, we care for individuals whose complex needs cannot be met within primary or secondary care services. We care for complex psychological and psychiatric aspects of neurological disorders including: Epilepsy Multiple sclerosis Parkinson’s disease Huntington's disease Brain injury Other neurological disorders. We also care for individuals with neurologically confirmed functional neurological symptoms such as: Non-epileptic seizures (sometimes referred to as dissociative or psychogenic seizures) Functional movement disorders Other functional symptoms. We do not treat neurodevelopmental disorders. Our main sources of referral are consultant neurologists, GP’s and consultant psychiatrists. Please do not hesitate to contact our department should you wish to discuss whether making a referral would be appropriate. Please make an appointment with the office on 01732 228 200 and choose option 1. It should be noted that our service does not care co-ordinate or manage crisis/high risk situations and in circumstances where this this is indicated, continuing community mental health service input and joint working would be needed.
