With first hand lived experience, as a 'late diagnosed' autistic counsellor, my way of working with fellow ND clients is based in the non-directive, person centred and humanistic principles; integrated to provide a unique style for each individual client. I pay attention to the entirety of the client, from both verbal and non-verbal cues / communication. Personal needs concerning surroundings and the effect on senses are tailored to, so providing a comfortable, relaxed space to explore issues. If verbal communication is difficult for clients I work more creatively e.g. using pens, paper, pictures, sandtray, figures/miniatures to name a few, as another way for clients to express themselves and their difficulties.
