About this service

Anyone who is 16 years old or over can access support at The Sanctuary in Bristol.

We support people who are experiencing serious emotional distress for all sorts of reasons. You may be going through a problem that is negatively affecting your mental health, or maybe you’re not sure where certain emotions are coming from and you’re finding it hard to cope.

Here are a few examples of things people are going through when they come to The Sanctuary:

  • Stress or frustration

  • Anxiety, worrying, or feeling overwhelmed

  • Depression, low moods or feelings of sadness

  • Feeling apathetic, like nothing matters or finding it hard to look forward to things

  • Feeling unmotivated or feeling a lack of meaning or purpose

  • Feeling lonely or isolated

  • Finding it hard to relate to others or missing meaningful social connections

  • Finding it difficult to manage emotions

  • Grief or loss

  • Circumstantial challenges, such as work, money, social or personal issues

We offer short-term listening support to those experiencing an emotional crisis. We offer telephone appointments from 5pm – midnight and face-to-face appointments from 6pm - 11pm. You will need to complete our triage process (usually done over the phone) in order to book an appointment with us.

We can offer up to a maximum of 3 support sessions, and this is allocated on a case-by-case basis. We will aim to offer you an appointment within 48 hours of you reaching out for support.
